Training

First Practice Sunday, Dec 4.

Attn Wilmot Race Team,

Management has asked that we postpone our 1st practice until Sunday, conditions permitting.

The hill will have one chair open on Saturday and rain is in the forecast. Snowmaking believes they will be able to blow snow on chair 3 all day Sat and for sure Sat night/Sun morning with hopes of opening the 2nd lift and more terrain for us on Sunday.

We plan to meet Sunday morning 9:30 am at the big tree in front of the main lodge at the bottom of Chair 3. Look for a gaggle of kids that look FAST – with some cool looking adults in black vests – That’s us!

We will do directed free skiing in small groups with coaches working skills and drills. The athletes should have SL skis and helmets and poles (of course!). There will not be any need for body armor, chin bars or pole and shin guards. The hardest thing we will hit would be brushes if we are lucky.

Coach Steve has laid out the focus for this week as exploring Rotary Movements in the fall line and short radius turns. We will avoid drills that take up wide hill space and stay in and around the fall line. This is one of those times we will be mixing with the public so everyone needs to watch their speed. We will have plenty of days for speed – this is not one of them!

For those who love to geek-out on skills and drills as much as  the coaches do, here is a quick video of one of the rotary drills we will work on:

Coaches will be out there early for any parents with questions.
