    Great week of Race Camp!

Great week of Race Camp with some pretty good snow even today.  We are still scheduled for T/W/Th January 3/4/5. 9am for week 2 of Camp beginning with SL Tuesday. However! Weather is not looking good. We will announce any changes on Monday.  However (again) the weather at Chestnut for the race next weekend looks perfect.  At this point, and since many are still on winter break, and especially if we don’t get many/any more days in at home, coaches are recommending you try and arrive early at Chestnut and take several runs on your GS skis Fri night if parents and schedules allow. This is totally on your own…

    Safety Gear

Team, Over the past few days/weeks, we have had a number of questions regarding helmets and safety equipment: Helmets Due to the increased speed and force impact during a crash, helmets for GS (and speed) must be HARD-sided, or have “rigid ear protection” as described by US Ski & Snowboard standards. Soft-eared helmets are only permitted for slalom racing. Please note, the POC Artic SL is a SLALOM helmet. At a glance, it does appear to have hard sides, it is still considered a soft-eared helmet and would not be permitted for a GS race. Chin bars are an additional piece of safety equipment that are only permitted for SLALOM…

    WIJARA registration closes this week

We are still planning on training Sat 12/24 at 930am. If your intent has changed, please update your status in the schedule tab of this app.  WIJARA Chestnut registration: This will close next week. wijara.wildapricot.com Many have asked if their racer is ready for the Chestnut Race. While I don’t have that answer, I think most would agree that the Chestnut U12 and younger course is the easiest course we race on all season while the U14 and older course is the steepest and longest (and most fun!). If that helps you decide? Racer age class is determined by calendar year. A racer who is 11 years old on 12/31/22…

    Safety Reminders for Training

Great training tonight everyone. Huge attendance and great snow! I actually never received the updated weeknight roster but will post it as soon as I get it.  As a reminder, Racers will not be allowed on course in training without: These are safety issues (and common sense/good skiing necessities) Athletes that show up late should NOT jump into a race course. Please notify a coach and ask if you can slip or inspect from the outside. Again, this is dangerous.  If you fall on course: **If you are hurt – do not move.** In most cases, if you are able, gather your gear as quickly as possible and move out…

The hill will be open 9am Sunday morning and we will fill the lift lines with red jackets and smiling faces on freshly tuned SL skis! Weather looks good from Sunday on and we will move back to our regular training schedules.  Race camp is looking solid. Our plan will be to do a week of SL and then a speed week on GS skis after new years leading into the Chestnut Race.  Details to follow.  SL skis and gear until we have enough terrain for speed. We do plan to train more speed this season for sure.  -Coach Jon
