Sundown race details
Welcome to Sundown weekend!
Don’t you love the reaction from friends when you tell them you are headed to a ski vacation in Iowa?!
Sundown is also an “upside down” hill where the parking and chalets are at the top.
All racers are on the same general hill – both courses start at the top together and the big kids ends to the left while little kids course veers off to the skiers right.
We have a Wilmot table downstairs in the South Lodge (it’s the last one as you head down the road – last parking lot- will be the busiest one first thing in the morning).
After morning meeting and boot up in the South Lodge, most of the action happens over at the start. There is a machine shed/heated garage with tables and chairs that historically also sells food at the start area. Scoreboards are here too. We all hang out at the garage and at the start area all weekend.
Racers and parents can walk from the South Lodge to the start area by walking across the top towards skiers left as you look down the hill. It’s around the top of the last chairlift.
Please note, the lift tickets are on a different building (the first one as you drive in). Either stop there on the way in, or park at South Lodge and get the racers started inside and walk back to the ticket building.
All racers meet coaches at the top of your course at 8:20am. Keep your warm clothes on for inspection. Wear your bib on your innermost layer (over speed suit etc) so when you strip down for your race, bib is there. We will have capes to wear at the top when you remove coats and warm ups.
Coach Steve, Andrew and Vlad will meet all U8, U10. U12 racers at the course on the skiers right.
Coach Jon, Vash and Nolan will meet U14, U16, U18, U20 on skiers left course.
Best viewing is from the top at Sundown.
Parents are not allowed inside the race area or on course during inspection or any other times. Please watch the race from outside the ropes.
Be sure and check out with your coach when you leave the race arena for the day.
If you are interfered with on course or feel you need a re run, it is very important that you do not cross the finish line. Stop and notify an official and then find your coach at the bottom.
We will have your bibs at inspection or at the hotel tonight. Private message Bob Vasa for bib pick up.
Ski fast and Have Fun!
