    Travel Racing

As a reminder, all team members are required to travel to and compete in 2 race weekends per season after the first season on the team. We have 80 racers registered for WIJARA and one for USSA only. The remaining rostered racers are new or need to register for races. We will be sending out the preliminary start list for Chestnut (WIJARA) this weekend with final start orders going out on Wednesday 1/4.  If you are planning to race WIJARA this season, please register in the next 48 hours.  After that time we will send individual emails to racers who are not racing this season to understand your intent.  Great…

    Safety Gear

Team, Over the past few days/weeks, we have had a number of questions regarding helmets and safety equipment: Helmets Due to the increased speed and force impact during a crash, helmets for GS (and speed) must be HARD-sided, or have “rigid ear protection” as described by US Ski & Snowboard standards. Soft-eared helmets are only permitted for slalom racing. Please note, the POC Artic SL is a SLALOM helmet. At a glance, it does appear to have hard sides, it is still considered a soft-eared helmet and would not be permitted for a GS race. Chin bars are an additional piece of safety equipment that are only permitted for SLALOM…

    WIJARA registration closes this week

We are still planning on training Sat 12/24 at 930am. If your intent has changed, please update your status in the schedule tab of this app.  WIJARA Chestnut registration: This will close next week. wijara.wildapricot.com Many have asked if their racer is ready for the Chestnut Race. While I don’t have that answer, I think most would agree that the Chestnut U12 and younger course is the easiest course we race on all season while the U14 and older course is the steepest and longest (and most fun!). If that helps you decide? Racer age class is determined by calendar year. A racer who is 11 years old on 12/31/22…

    Safety Reminders for Training

Great training tonight everyone. Huge attendance and great snow! I actually never received the updated weeknight roster but will post it as soon as I get it.  As a reminder, Racers will not be allowed on course in training without: These are safety issues (and common sense/good skiing necessities) Athletes that show up late should NOT jump into a race course. Please notify a coach and ask if you can slip or inspect from the outside. Again, this is dangerous.  If you fall on course: **If you are hurt – do not move.** In most cases, if you are able, gather your gear as quickly as possible and move out…

    Training resumes schedule 12/18

The hill will be open 9am Sunday morning and we will fill the lift lines with red jackets and smiling faces on freshly tuned SL skis! Weather looks good from Sunday on and we will move back to our regular training schedules.  Race camp is looking solid. Our plan will be to do a week of SL and then a speed week on GS skis after new years leading into the Chestnut Race.  Details to follow.  SL skis and gear until we have enough terrain for speed. We do plan to train more speed this season for sure.  -Coach Jon

    12/11 cancelled, training video

Unfortunately, due to continued poor weather and deteriorating snow conditions we are forced to cancel training tomorrow, Sunday the 11th.  In an effort to make sure athletes registered for the ‘weekend only’ plan get ample hill time; we will continue to extend the option for you to attend weeknight training.  In the meantime, here is a great video by US Olympian (and current snow sports professional) Deb Anderson. In this video she covers exactly what we have been discussing with respect to the inside foot and a closed ankle joint (ankle flexion). She goes a bit deeper and extends the concept to top level racing…though we have socialized these concepts with some of the…

    Training focus: ankle flex

Here is a summary of the movement pattern on which we have currently placed our focus.  ‘Ankle flex’ or a ‘closed ankle’ is the ‘correct’ term for ‘getting forward’… ‘getting forward’ can mean a lot of things and is not an accurate way to describe or address the issue. We need to close the ankle joint in order to establish a foundation for good body position over the skis.  This concept seemed to resonate with most of the athletes but by no means mastered by any of them – and that’s OK! That’s why we are here and why we put in the hard work. Keep it up!  Myself or any of…
