    WIJARA registration closes this week

We are still planning on training Sat 12/24 at 930am. If your intent has changed, please update your status in the schedule tab of this app.  WIJARA Chestnut registration: This will close next week. wijara.wildapricot.com Many have asked if their racer is ready for the Chestnut Race. While I don’t have that answer, I think most would agree that the Chestnut U12 and younger course is the easiest course we race on all season while the U14 and older course is the steepest and longest (and most fun!). If that helps you decide? Racer age class is determined by calendar year. A racer who is 11 years old on 12/31/22…

    Safety Reminders for Training

Great training tonight everyone. Huge attendance and great snow! I actually never received the updated weeknight roster but will post it as soon as I get it.  As a reminder, Racers will not be allowed on course in training without: These are safety issues (and common sense/good skiing necessities) Athletes that show up late should NOT jump into a race course. Please notify a coach and ask if you can slip or inspect from the outside. Again, this is dangerous.  If you fall on course: **If you are hurt – do not move.** In most cases, if you are able, gather your gear as quickly as possible and move out…

    Registration, Lift tix

If you still have registration issues – we are now able to fix those fairly quickly – please reply with which program you still need to register for and I will have an office staff member reach out to you directly. We will take attendance moving forward to confirm racers are properly registered. Some program clarifications from recent email inquiries that we have received: Next you need to register each racer with the actual race league: For USSA we compete in Central Region 2 – Follow this link and you need to register racers for EACH RACE: https://www.region2cussa.com/ For most Wilmot racers, we travel to WIJARA races – You need…

    12/11 cancelled, training video

Unfortunately, due to continued poor weather and deteriorating snow conditions we are forced to cancel training tomorrow, Sunday the 11th.  In an effort to make sure athletes registered for the ‘weekend only’ plan get ample hill time; we will continue to extend the option for you to attend weeknight training.  In the meantime, here is a great video by US Olympian (and current snow sports professional) Deb Anderson. In this video she covers exactly what we have been discussing with respect to the inside foot and a closed ankle joint (ankle flexion). She goes a bit deeper and extends the concept to top level racing…though we have socialized these concepts with some of the…

    Training Update & First Race

Wilmot Ski Team, Great news! Management has approved my request to allow ALL team members, regardless of registration for weeknights, to train this week Tues and Thurs night. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the early opening of the hill and help get our ski legs! Training is 5:30-7:30 pm Tuesday and Thursday. On 12/6 and 12/8, all team members are welcome to train. We will train SL and may set some stubbies if you want to use shin guards. Most likely it will be brushes and skills and drills. No chin bars or pole guards are necessary. On 12/13 we will begin our regular T/Th weeknight…

    2022/23 Training schedule, etc.

From Coach Jon: Wilmot opened a week earlier than planned due to good snowmaking conditions. We were hopeful we could also begin Team training a week early on December 3. This is STILL the plan. The weather has continued to be warm in recent days resulting in a loss of snow and limited terrain. The weather forecast indicates opportunities to make snow again this week. We will send out another email on Friday morning updating the status of training for this weekend. NOTES FOR THE SEASON AND TEAM MEETING RECAP: Registration- I understand there are issues with registration. Please continue to send me notes if you believe you have a…

    Thanksgiving Camps

Hello Wilmot Ski Team Families Some families have already made plans to attend a ski camp over Thanksgiving. There are many camps out there and most of them are great. Some are out west – which is awesome if you can swing it, but it is not necessary to go to Colorado to get acclimated for the season.  Unfortunately, I am not coaching at any camps this season and Wilmot does not have a camp this year. However, Pat Slattery (Team Blackhawk) is hosting his camp at Brule, MI again this year. Pat is an excellent coach and a great human. I have coached this camp with Pat in the past…

    Dryland Training Follow-up

As a follow up to last week’s dryand session, I wanted to share an outline of our workout. The movement patterns we touched on will improve one’s ability to move like an athlete. Efficient and strong movement is key to success in skiing (or any other sport).  For a variety of reasons, we cannot host a regular dryland session, however, if your young athlete spends a little time focusing on these movements at home, they will establish a firm foundation from which they can build their skiing goals. I would recommend working on some of these core and stabilization exercises at home. Make it a family event and parents can join in too!   Anyhow, please…
